I missed going on the Belize Aggressor III by only a few
months she should have been ready and willing when I went to
Belize in December 1995, but she was delayed until the following spring.
When she finally arrived she was, without a doubt, the Caribbeans
finest live-aboard, and still is.
The Belize Aggressor III is a 120ft, aluminium vessel that
can cruise at 15kts, making her a fast and ideal platform to cover
the distances involved in getting out to Lighthouse Reef. Almost a
third of her main deck is taken up by the spacious dive area, with
individual gear lockers for each diver. The dive platform has fresh
water showers and a handy fin rack, and large ladders that extend
underwater for easy exiting. Rinse tanks for cameras & dive gear
plus a large 3-tier camera table are situated on the main deck. Forward
of the dive deck are the saloon, galley and dining area. The saloon
has comfy chairs, light table and entertainment centre, while the
galley serves up a host of tasty local and international dishes that
can be eaten in the dining area that is situated at the front of the
boat, with panoramic windows to 3 sides. There is also a TV &
video in the dining area for those incapable of making polite conversation!
A stairway in the saloon takes you below decks where 8 en-suite cabins
are to be found. All bar one have double beds below and single bunks
above. The other has two up & over single bunks. The 9th cabin,
the "Honeymoon Suite" can be found on the upper deck, with
en suite and a large double bed but no single bunk above to bash your
head on! Here on the upper deck can also be found the wheelhouse,
captains quarters a shaded bar and open sun deck with hot tub
and sun loungers. Every cabin has individually controlled air-conditioning,
TV & video.
In our opinion the Belize Aggressor III is still at the cutting
edge of live-aboard dive travel, despite being 8 years old. She is
a beautiful boat, thoughtfully designed and crewed by an enthusiastic
and knowledgeable team.
The Belize Aggressor III runs 7-night cruises Saturday-Saturday,
from Belize City to Turneffe Islands & Lighthouse Reef. Because
of flight schedules an overnight stopover in the US is required for
British passengers, so they must leave the UK no later than Friday.
Stopovers are not required on the return journey.
