Waow – you’d be forgiven for thinking it was some exotic Indonesian world meaning “dream” or “paradise” but you’d be wrong, I am afraid. Waow stands for Water Adventure Ocean Wide; the name came about because when people went to see Waow being built the first thing they said was “Wow!” The mind boggles as to what the boat could have been called!
Waow is the newest and perhaps most luxurious dive boat to ply the waters of Indonesia; 195 ft of beautiful hand crafted hard woods carefully selected from the ever shrinking rainforests of Kalimantan! She has three massive steel masts with full rigging and sails for motoring with the breeze, 2 YanmarMarine Diesels each with 500 hp, two 100 kVa and one 40 kVa generators, supplying both 220v and 110v power. Under motors only she can comfortably cruise at 10 knots, and in case the captain’s not sure where he is, navigation equipment includes high & low frequency sonar, GPS, chart plotters, computer mapping, HF & VHF Radios, radar, satcomm, weather fax & satphone. Her fuel capacity is 32000 litre, she has holding tanks for 12000 of water and two water-makers capable of making an additional 5,000 litres of water a day.
Waow boats 9 cabins for a maximum of 18 guests, 6 deluxe cabins on the lower deck, 2 superior cabins aft on the main deck and a master cabin aft on the upper deck. Each cabin comes with separate day bed, individual air conditioning, luxuriously appointed en suite bathrooms, writing desk, entertainment system and LED lighting. The superior cabins have a separate lounge and dining area if you wish to eat in private and the master cabin has a spacious private sundeck.
On the main deck can be found the saloon with dining area and comfortable seating if you wish to remain cool and sophisticated. Forward of the saloon is a large deck area with tables and chairs for al fresco dining and relaxation. There is a large and well appointed camera room with benches for tinkering, secure cupboards and sophisticated charging facilities. A hi tech media centre in the saloon allows you to preview your photos or videos between dives.
Diving is done from one of the boat’s three tenders, and the group will be split according to experience and personal dive preference/style. Two compressors with large banks easily fill the eighty 12 and 15 litre tanks on offer; Nitrox is also available for those certified to use it. The dive deck is forward on the main deck, a large covered area with tank racks, gear bins and rinse tanks. The crew take care of filling and returning your tanks to your personal dive station between dives and assist in moving it down to the tenders. 4 dives per day is the norm on Waow, with night dives available when the boat is not moving.
Waow has a huge range of trips on offer, covering all the popular areas that Indonesia has to offer, plus a few more remote cruises that will cover some well known dive sites and some exciting exploration as well.
Waow is an exceptional vessel, and if you are looking to dive Indonesia with the highest possible personal service, then you really need look no further!
