| The
Madang Resort Hotel is located in a prime position art
the entrance to one of the worlds most beautiful
natural anchorages, Madang Harbour. Set in 5 acres of
landscaped gardens filled with orchids, palms and other
native flora, waterfalls and pools, overlooking the
many islands that dot the harbour, the resort is close
enough to Madang yet far enough away for you to be totally
unaware of its existence! It is a short walk into Madang,
where you can go shopping, meet with the locals and
observe the huge flicks of fruit bats thaat roost in
the trees around the town square! If you want to strike
up a conversation with the groups of locals that rest
in the trees' cool shade, then the best thing to do
is ask if they taste good! This is guarantied an enthusiastic
response, though we don't recommend you take their word
for it!
The Madang Resort Hotel has a range of accommodation
to suit any budget (we have quoted the standard accommodation
in our prices, but upgrades are available on request).
20 standard rooms are smaller but have all the creature
comforts you would expect, including air-conditioning,
en suite bathroom, private balcony and TV. 30 deluxe
rooms are more capacious and have balconies with views
out over the harbour. The 40 executive rooms have split
level sitting rooms, some of them set over the water,
and mini bars. The 14 Presidential Suites (they get
lots of presidents there!) are essentially 2 executive
suites combined to offer enormous space, with separate
sitting room & bedroom, 2 bathrooms and 2 balconies.
The resort has a choice of 2 restaurants, the traditionally
built Haus Win on the seafront, and the Terrace Coffee
Shop; at both a choice of fine cuisine or a lioght snack
are always available. Special functions and occasions
can be arranged at the resort, which even has a ballroom
that can accommodate 600 guests. Conference facilities
with state of the art audio-visual aids and a business
centre are also available. A gift shop & art gallery
are available for the purchase of everyday items such
as toothpaste, a newspaper or a 6ft carved figure!
The Madang Resort Hotel has no less than 3 swimming
pools and a private sandy beach next to the Madang Golf
Course. All guests of the Madang Resort receive automatic
full membership to the Madang Country Club allowing
them to enjoy a game of tennis, lawn bowls or squash.
Sightseeing tours of Madang and its environs can be
arranged through the reception, including big game fishing,
jet & water skiing, rainforest walks, birdwatching
and viewing WWII relics. Up the coast from Madang, in
the forest near Alexishafen, is the remains of an American
B25 bomber. It is perhaps the best preserved of all
plane wrecks in Papua New Guinea. It is set amongst
the trees on the edge of what used to be a Japanese
airstrip. This still shows through the tall scrub grass
and cane that has since grown up, and bomb craters are
clearly visible, strangely devoid of plant growth. Alternatively,
you can be ferried out to one of the islands with a
packed lunch for a quiet day's relaxation all by yourself.
The resort boasts its own in-house dive operation, Niugini
Diving Adventures. They operate daily dive trips to
Madangs renowned dive sites on small, intimate
dive boats. A full range of dive gear is available for
rent or purchase in their dive shop. Long range daily
dive trips to Karkar, Bagabag & Long Island can
also be arranged.
