Tawali Resort

At last, a resort that offers proper day diving in Milne Bay! Tawali is located on the north side of East Cape, facing across Goodenough Bay towards Goodenough, Fergusson and Normaby Island. Situated on a limestone bluff above a beautiful fringing coral reef and drop offs, Tawali offers luxurious accommodation for just a handful of people. Traditional style rooms nestle amongst verdant gardens with panoramic views of the sea beyond. Each room has two queen sized beds, ceiling fan, air conditioning, mini bar and fridge, and en suite bathrooms. The floors are laid with rich polished local hardwoods. Each room has a private balcony where you can enjoy the sunrise. The rooms are connected with the main reception lodge by way of covered walkways, so if there is a smattering of rain or more, you know you will keep dry! In the main reception area are bar and restaurant, where local and international cuisine of an exceptional standard are offered. Diving is offered from two 22ft boats with no more than six divers per boat. From Tawali the boats venture out for 2 morning and 2 afternoon dives, and for more remote dive sites a full day trip can be arranged with packed lunch. From twali the dive boats can strike north west to Cape Vogel, to dive the legendary Blackjack B17 bomber, north to the amazing critter dive at Observation Point and to legendary Dinah’s Beach, the home of muck diving and Deacon’s Reef , an underwater coral cathedral of breathtaking beauty. See the Milne Bay dive sites section for more details. For land lubbers there are forest hikes to waterfalls, the local Skull Cave, and bird and plant walks. Tawali is also home to 2 liveaboards, Chertan, which offers exceptional diving for those on a budget, and the more luxuriously appointed Spirit of Niugini. Both boats offer long range diving to the far side of Fergusson and Goodenough Islands to the north and the d’Entecasteaux Islands to the south East.
