The 132ft Truk Odyssey is perhaps one of the most beautifully
maintained and well appointed live-aboard dive boats in the world,
and certainly sets standards that few other dive boats can even
remotely pretend to achieve!
With a 24ft beam and 3 deck levels she offers spacious and luxurious
accommodation for just 16 guests, 14 in twin cabins. 6 cabins accommodate
either couples in a king size double bed or, for friends travelling
together, 2 single beds, one cabin has a lower double bunk and single
upper bunk and the other 2 cabins uniquely cater for single travellers
who require their own privacy. 4 of the double/twin cabins and the
bunked cabin are located on the lower deck while the other two double
cabins and the single cabins are located forward of the lounge on
the main deck. Each cabin has an en suite bathroom and washbasin
within the cabin, air conditioning and either large picture window
or porthole view.
On the main deck the lounge has a well stocked bar, TV with PAL/NTSC
video player, DVD player and music system. For those who enjoy a
good read, a well-stocked library is also available, including fish
& invertebrate ID books if you have seen something you don't
recognise! There are also board games and a large slide table for
you to sort through any slides you may have had developed on board.
The air-conditioned main dining room on the Odyssey has
a bar serving a wide choice of beers, wines and spirits, as well
as soft drinks and fruit juices, and enough tables for everyone
to sit in comfort without being squashed up to the next person and
having a fork or elbow jammed in your ribs! Lunch & dinner are
served buffet style. Breakfast is served from a menu and includes
a hot breakfast plus toast, cereals, fruit and juices. Snacks are
available throughout the day.
Astern of the dining room is the sun deck, which has a shaded area
for those of a delicate disposition.
The dive deck is located to the stern of the main deck lounge and
has individual tank ranks and gear bins, 3-level camera table and
gear & camera rinse buckets. E6 processing is done daily for
those who wish to get their slides developed as they dive. As diving
is done from the mother ship rather than from a tender, gear is
set up at the start of the trip and remains that way until the end
of the cruise.
Technical divers are extremely well catered for aboard the Odyssey.
Nitrox is available free of charge for those who are qualified,
and bands and dual valve isolation manifolds are provided for those
who prefer diving with twin sets. 30cuft pony bottles are also available
for your personal use during the trip.
After your dive you can rinse off under the freshwater showers
located on the dive deck and hang your wet suit on the rail next
to the exhaust vent for the engine room cooling fan - it warms and
dries your wet suit in no time! A nice touch!
A trip on the Truk Odyssey will spoil you for life! The
opportunity to dive the fabulous wrecks of Truk is one that all
divers should attain, but to dive them from the Truk Odyssey
is a privilege.
